The Municipality of Cona is situated in the south of the Province of Venice, neighbouring with Correzzola, Chioggia, Cavarzere and Agna.
It comprises five hamlets: Cona, Conetta, Cantarana, Monsole, Pegolotte and il Foresto. Archaeological remains and traces of an ancient road-bed suggest that a major Roman road may once have passed through the area. The most significant historical events concern the reclamation work carried out by the Benedictines in the abbey of Santa Giustina. Part of the Municipality of Cona belonged to the gastaldia di Cona, an administrative division adopted by the local Benedictine monks (see Correzzola). Another landmark event took place when the Venetians seized the ancient forest, the strip of woodland running from the present Canale Rebosola to the Adige, from the Benedictines. In the 17th century, the Foresto area was divided into lots of land sold at auction to Venetian noble families who set about reclaming the land. In more recent times the engineer Cesare de Lotto used mechanical equipment to reclaim the Foresto zone.
